Dhanvantri, the God of Ayurveda

Dhanvantri, the God of Ayurveda

Dhanvantari, in Hindu mythology, is the physician of the gods, an avatar and embodiment of Vishnu, who is the preserver and protector of material creation.

Dhanwantri, the God of Ayurveda, received his Ayurvedic knowledge from Brahma. According to legend, the gods and demons sought the elixir of amrita (meaning immortality) by churning the milky ocean, and Dhanvantari emerged from the water carrying a cup filled with the elixir.
